Ed, Edd n Eddy

"Another Ed Down the Drain" is an Ed, Edd n Eddy comic. In it, the Eds venture into the sewer to hunt for alligators. It was published by DC Comics in Cartoon Cartoons issue #24.

Plot[]

Edd and Eddy are holding Ed's legs as Ed dangles inside a manhole, searching for something in the drain. Rolf sees this and assumes the Eds are trying to catch sewer mackerel. Edd corrects him, saying that they are trying to find Eddy's "Who to Scam and When" book, which Eddy has accidentally dropped down the storm drain. Ed emerges from the manhole wielding a large clump of filth and trash, mistaking it for an alligator. At the mentioning of this, Eddy conceives a scam.

Eddy brings the Eds to his attic to find equipment for his scam. He reveals his plan is to catch alligators in the sewer and sell them. Eddy assigns the job of gator-spotter to Ed, gluing a flashlight to Ed's head. Edd is given the job of wrangler.

Roped together, the Eds enter the local sewers, beginning their alligator hunt. In the darkness, they spot numerous pairs of eyes surrounding them. Ed's flashlight beam reveals that the eyes belong to a large population of frogs. Excitedly, Ed runs towards them. Eddy, sensing trouble, removes his section of the rope from his body, leaving Edd to be dragged off by Ed.

Eddy is left alone in the darkness, causing him to panic. Meanwhile, Ed's dash comes to a halt when he collides with a pole. The collision causes Edd to fall face down into the sewer water. As Edd gets back on his feet, he spots something peculiar ahead of him. An anxious Eddy reunites with his friends, and all three Eds marvel at the spectacle in front of them: a large accumulation of miscellaneous objects that have fallen down the storm drain.

Eddy is pleased with this discovery, as he believes some of the objects will be lucrative to sell. Ed begins to gather aluminum cans, shoving them down his trousers. The Eds then hear a sinister noise. A large shadow appears on the sewer wall, and the Eds assume an alligator is approaching them. A terrified Eddy orders retreat. While escaping the sewer, Ed abandons his bulky trousers and the objects within.

The Eds make a hasty exit from the sewer. The "alligator" then follows them out. Upon emerging, the Eds realize it was Rolf all along. Rolf has found troves of "treasures" in the sewer, including Ed’s trousers and everything inside of them, which Rolf has claimed for himself. As Rolf leaves, Edd observes that the Eds have lost any chance of making money from the hunt. Eddy is unhappy that Rolf has taken their loot, and Ed waves goodbye to his pants.

Trivia[]

  • Goof: In the fourth panel, Edd's dialogue indicates Ed had made a comment misidentifying the lump of filth and trash as a reptile. Oddly, Ed had made no such remark. It is possible that Ed had made a comment, but the speech bubble was mistakenly omitted.
  • A sign in the pile of miscellaneous objects reads, "Eat at Joes". This is likely an homage to classic Warner Bros. and MGM cartoons, which frequently used the phrase as a running gag.
